08/06/22 A PLACE FOR ALL TO SERVE
WHAT TO DO if you can't do what you want to do?
A song says that there is deliverance from sin in Jesus, and all believers have a part in spreading that deliverance.
There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul
If you cannot preach like Peter
If you cannot pray like Paul
You can tell the love of Jesus
And say, "He died for all".
BUT, WHAT OTHER SERVICE CAN I RENDER TO GOD?
Those who love Jesus want to DO THE WILL OF GOD. It is not a matter of works of the flesh, or self righteousness, it is a matter of love and faith.
SO, WHAT CAN I DO?
Okay, so you don't have the gift of evangelism (though you do have the responsibility and the enabling power of God to evangelize and to win souls), and you don't have the talent to sing or play musical instruments (at least at this stage of your life) and you are not gifted, talented, skilled, enlightened enough to teach the Bible. So what do you do?
Note, doing these "less" spiritual jobs are essential in serving God. They are not glamorous or exciting, but they are needed and sometimes they are more needed by the person doing the service than for those who benefit from the accomplished task.
AND BY THE WAY, the less exciting, less glamorous, less "spiritual" projects should get full commitment, energy, priority, time, enthusiasm, as any service rendered to God and His local church.
You can clean, you can build, you can lawn care, you can maintain properties, you can cook, you can help with chores, you can assist the needy, you can run errands. There are many things you can do. But they need to be done with purpose, on a schedule, when needed, without being reminded, without complaint, in a spirit of humility and joy as unto the Lord
By the way, it is in doing the will of God that enlightens us to knowing the will of God. Being faithful in the seemingly small things leads to other and sometimes bigger things. But remember, there is no small or insignificant work for God.
Little Is Much When God Is in It
Kittie L. Suffield, 1924
In the harvest field now ripened
There’s a work for all to do;
Hark! the Master’s voice is calling,
To the harvest calling you.
Refrain:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame;
There’s a crown, and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus’ name.
In the mad rush of the broad way,
In the hurry and the strife,
Tell of Jesus’ love and mercy,
Give to them the Word of Life.
Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it,
And He’ll not forsake His own.
Are you laid aside from service,
Body worn from toil and care?
You can still be in the battle,
In the sacred place of prayer.
When the conflict here is ended
And our race on earth is run,
He will say, if we are faithful,
“Welcome home, My child—well done!”
When should you serve God?
While you can. There will be times you can't do as much as you would like to do. Work while you have daylight because the night comes when no man works. Health and earthly cares will take a toll, therefore give Him your best while you can.
