08/10/22 BELIEVERS KEEP GOD'S COMMANDS
I presented a list of over 60 verses that state specifically that it is possible to KEEP God's COMMANDMENTS. I realize that we are not saved by keeping commandments and I also realize that no one can keep God's commandments without the enabling grace, power of God and His salvation. Of course, I am referring to keeping whatever laws of God placed on His people. In the New Testament we are answerable for God's moral law, not sacrificial, dietary or ceremonial laws of the Old Testament.
However, there are people who deny that God calls, requires, expects and enables believers to KEEP GOD'S COMMANDMENTS. The list of verses clearly instructs us to KEEP His Commandments. If God does not enable and expect us to KEEP His COMMANDMENTS, then the people who refute this should be able to give verses that clearly, specifically say that God's redeemed people CANNOT keep God's commandments.
If, on the other hand, folks claim that it is impossible to KEEP God's COMMANDMENTS, but they are unable to support it with Biblical passages clearly and specifically saying believers CANNOT KEEP God's
COMMANDMENTS, then those people should acknowledge that they have misstated and misrepresented God's word; they should never repeat the lie again and they should openly say that God's word clearly and specifically says God calls, requires, expects and enables believers to KEEP GOD'S COMMANDMENTS.
Also note, there are many, many more passages that say the same thing in different words. Holiness of heart and life is not an option, it is Divine requirement, provided by Christ's atonement and appropriated by saving faith. We keep God's commandments because we are living in God's grace, which imparts perfect love and it is because we love Him that we keep His commandments. It is the evidence of our salvation. The breaking of His commandments is the evidence that we do not have salvation.
Not only are we able to keep His commandments, it is not burdensome to keep them.
1 John 5:2-5
(2) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
(3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
(4) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
(5) Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
