10/05/22 ACTUAL GOOD NEWS
It is not true and it is not The Good News (the Gospel) to tell sinners that God may or may not love them, or that God may or may not have provided salvation for them, or that Jesus may or may not have died and risen again to redeem them from sin and eternal separation from God.
THE GOOD NEWS IS,
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
It is not good news that a person may be hopelessly lost in sin because God does not love them and because God has not provided salvation for them.
At the birth of Jesus, the angel said,
Luke 2:8-11
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Paul tells us,
Romans 10:11-17
11 For the scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who is rich to all who call upon him.
13 For "everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."
14
How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And
how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how
will they hear about him without one who preaches to them?
15 And how
will they preach, unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "How
timely are the feet of those who bring good news of good things."
16 But not all have obeyed the good news, for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"
17 Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word about Christ.
1 Timothy 2:3-6
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Titus 2:11-14
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation (to all men) hath appeared to all men, (better translation... For the grace of God that bringeth salvation to all men hath appeared),
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Peter said,
2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Acts 2:21
21 And it will be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.'
John wrote,
1 John 2:1-6
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one,
2 and he is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.
5 But whoever keeps his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him.
6 The one who says that he resides in him ought also to walk just as that one walked.
The good news is that Jesus brings salvation from all sin to all men. He gives it freely to whosoever will receive it (believe, repent, confess).
